BREAKING: AUPD identifies individual with gun on campus

No injuries reported, AU working with local law enforcement to arrest individual

The American University Police Department is investigating an incident where an individual on the southside of campus pointed a firearm at someone from a vehicle, according to an email sent to the University community.

AUPD identified the individual and are working with local law enforcement to “pursue an arrest for assault under D.C. law.” No injuries were reported.

Two “AU community members” reported seeing an individual in possession of a firearm in a vehicle at 2:39 p.m. on Oct. 30, according to the email. One witness said that the individual reportedly pointed a firearm directly at them.

In a campus-wide email sent around 8:25 p.m., AUPD said that their video and tag reading cameras identified the driver and the car as it drove off campus through Fletcher Gate.

“No community member was harmed in this matter and through the investigation, AUPD determined that there is no imminent threat to campus. It remains important for the community to be aware and vigilant,” AUPD said in the email.
