Come write for The Eagle (again)

Eagle seeks alumni column submissions to mark paper’s 100th anniversary

Do you want to write for your college newspaper again? Now is the chance! The Eagle is eager to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2025 with decades’ worth of alumni, and we want you to tell the stories of your time on the paper.

Have a funny memory in The Eagle office or a favorite story you worked on during your time at The Eagle? We want to hear from you!

The Eagle is accepting submissions for alumni to write 250-500 word columns about their time on the paper. Our goal is to showcase Eagle memories and the paper’s impact across generations on our website for years to come.

The editor-in-chief and Copy team will edit the columns for AP style (and our special Eagle style). Email your column and headshot for the cover photo (either from now or when you attended American University) to 100years@theeagleonline.com. Abby Turner, the editor-in-chief, will be in touch with you about your submission.

If you want to join the fun even more, our Multimedia team is interviewing alumni of The Eagle about their time on the paper for a mini-documentary and social media videos. If you would like to speak with that team, please fill out this form

Column Submission

Please include the following information in your email to 100years@theeagleonline.com along with the column:

  • A headline and a subheading (we can help you with these)
  • Your first and last name (and/or maiden name at the time of attending American University)
  • Your graduation year, degree and school (e.g., SPA/B.A. ‘98)
  • The section(s) you worked for and position(s) you held on The Eagle

Section 202 hosts Connor Sturniolo and Gabrielle McNamee are joined by fellow Eagle staff member and phenomenal sports photographer, Josh Markowitz. Follow along as they discuss the United Football League and the benefits it provides for the world of professional football.
