How to host the perfect ‘Galentine’s Day’

Ideas and inspiration to spend the day with friends and loved ones

Valentine’s Day is coming up, which means love is in the air. This year, Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday, so the possibilities on how to spend the day are endless.

Whether you’re planning a night with a special someone or with a few of your friends, here are some cute, fun and accessible ideas to make this year’s “Galentine’s Day” celebration memorable.

Make a Sweet Treat

Everyone loves a good sweet treat. It is the best part of the night after you have had a delicious meal. Platforms such as Pinterest have endless inspiration for different cute and budget friendly treats you can make both on and off campus.

Chocolate covered strawberries, red velvet cupcakes and a Valentine’s Day-themed candy salad are just a few examples.

Cooking or preparing these after-dinner snacks offers a great opportunity to catch up with friends, listen to music and just enjoy the company of the people you are spending the end of a long week with.

Have a Movie Marathon

There is never a shortage of cheesy and heartwarming romantic comedies available on almost every streaming service. Gather around a TV, laptop, phone or projector and have a movie marathon.

Get cozy in some cute pajamas and pop open your favorite snacks. You can find inspiration on Rotten Tomatoes and hundreds of other blogs available with one Google search. “10 Things I Hate About You,” “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” and “13 Going on 30” are just a few.

If rom-coms are not your group’s favorite, no worries! Take this time to binge any of your all time favorite movies or TV shows with your favorite people.

Decorate Your Door

Hearts, cute streamers and pink and red don't have to be seasonal. Use construction paper to cut out hearts and create cute paper chain streamers to tape to your and your friends’ doors. You can get extra creative by writing cute messages with cut out letters.

Although Valentine’s Day is only one day, you can keep the decoration up for as long as you want and have a personalized door all semester long.

Host a Vision Board Night

Even though it’s already February, it is never too late to slow down and reflect with friends about what you and your group want to accomplish and achieve in the year 2025.

Creating a vision board is a super fun and easy craft that only requires a poster board, magazine clippings, personal photos and glue to create a collage of inspiration for the rest of the year. You and your friends can brainstorm together, and it is one of the best activities to get to know the people in your life on a deeper level.

Whether your goals are to travel, get to the gym, cook more, explore new music or improve academically, you can capture it all in one place. After the craft night, you can hang these boards up somewhere you will always see them so they can inspire you to keep chasing your goals.

Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to spend time with the people you love and appreciate the most. Whatever you do on this day, make sure to focus on things that you do have and the long way you have come.
