Matthew Eynon will become American University’s next vice president of university advancement, taking over from the team’s interim Vice President Dan Luperchio, University President Jonathan Alger announced in an email Monday.
Eynon is currently the associate vice president and chief operating officer of Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Office of Resource Development. Before, Eynon served as the vice president for college advancement at Franklin & Marshall College. He held positions in advancement earlier in his career, including as Boston College’s associate vice president for annual giving, Suffolk University’s assistant vice president for advancement and University of Massachusetts Lowell’s chief advancement officer.
“Throughout the search process, Matthew demonstrated enthusiasm, visionary approaches, and a track record of collaboration that will make him an effective leader and strong advocate for our community,” Alger wrote.
The vice president of university advancement is responsible for “philanthropic giving and alumni engagement.” Luperchio was “crucial” to the recent large philanthropic donation from H. Kent Baker, Alger wrote in the email, which will allow the School of Education to continue operating independently.
