American University dining staff member died on campus Monday night

‘No suspicion of foul play or concern for community safety,’ the University wrote

A member of American University’s dining staff died during a medical emergency Monday night, according to an email from University Vice President, Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer Bronté Burleigh-Jones.

Members of the AU Police Department joined DC Fire and EMS in responding to a medical emergency in the Terrace Dining Room on March 31, though lifesaving measures were unsuccessful, according to the email.

“There is no suspicion of foul play or concern for community safety in this matter,” Burleigh-Jones wrote.

The individual was employed with Chartwells, the University’s dining operator. Additional information is not available until a routine investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department is completed and the individual’s family is notified, Burleigh-Jones wrote.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
