French language student sings blues, learns to listen

·

I vividly remember the hearing tests I had to take in elementary school, and how they made my heart race and palms sweat. There was a poorly lit room and a doctor with a soothing voice behind a pane of glass who was telling me to push the green button when I heard the blocks fall.

CH-CH-CHANGES - Angelina Jolie plays a mother whose son disappears. Months later, the corrupt Los Angeles Police Department returns a child to her that is not her own in an attempt to quell her queries.

Eastwood courts Academy

·

Clint Eastwood's "Changeling" lives up to its claim as a true story by successfully capturing the sense of turmoil within the film's tragic events. Angelina Jolie stars as Christine Collins, a single working mother in 1928 Los Angeles whose world is turned upside down when her nine-year-old son, Walter, vanishes one afternoon while she is at work.

Not so 'Keane' on new album

Keane "Perfect Symmetry" (Interscope) SOUNDS LIKE: U2 turned Mika As soon as you hear the distinct vocals on the first track of "Perfect Symmetry," you realize the record is undeniably Keane. Listening to the British pop band's new album intermixed with their debut album, "Hopes and Fears," however, brings to light just how much the band has changed for the worse since they hit the mainstream in 2004 with their hit song "Somewhere Only We Know.

Visuals keep album afloat

Rodrigo y Gabriela "Live in Japan" (ATO Records) SOUNDS LIKE: Virtuoso guitar playing with no real hook. Live albums always seem to exist in a state of music purgatory. They can never hope to recreate the visceral experience of going to a show, and they will never really have the polish of a studio album.

Sometimes sex leads to love, money

After the overtly sentimental "Jersey Girl," writer and director Kevin Smith appeared to abandon his trademark gross-out humor. Yet with his latest film, "Zack and Miri Make a Porno," he has undoubtedly reclaimed his vulgar credibility.

Scare tactics: Reality ghost hunters fake it

Everyone has a ghost story to tell. In the dim light of the campfire, neither a spook nor a phantasm can arise that is too ridiculous to stir the senses of wonderment and doubt that are so easily aroused when the afterlife is brought up. While to the casual follower spirits may seem merely a cheap way for a jump in the latest psychological thriller, those more passionate on the subject can be drawn to any material relating to their paranormal fixation.

Pie, zoo spark animal instincts

I find that a huge problem for people who come to college is whether or not to break up with your significant other from home. Since it's the fall semester, I also assume that a lot of freshmen are possibly encountering this situation. I suppose this is a touchy subject because every situation is obviously different, but I'd like to throw in my two cents.
