DEAD SEXY - Eva Longoria plays an uptight almost-newlywed with much the same personality as her famous "Desperate Housewives" character. Acceptable acting from Paul Rudd cannot carry the flimsy plot, which is rife with awkward fart jokes and silly ghost

A man's fiancée dies in a tragic accident on the day of their wedding. He mourns her death for an entire year before contacting a psychic for help. He hopes to communicate with his lost fiancée through the help of the psychic's powers. But instead of contacting his dead partner, he falls for the psychic.

AMERICOMEDIC - Freshmen Kelsea Edgerly and Will Zeman make their Players debuts in "The Complete History of America (Abridged)." The show condenses over 500 years of American history into an hour-and-a-half spectacle of politics, comedy and satire, poking

AU Players teach American history lesson

·

In a time when many are focused on the future of America, the AU Players take a step backward and look at the history of America through their first performance of the semester, "The Complete History of America (Abridged)." Through skits, songs and mime, the six-member cast brought the audience an entirely irreverent and hilarious version of where the United States of America's roots lie.

DO OR DIE - Welsh progressive power-pop quintet Super Furry Animals delivered a sonically flat performance Sunday night at the 9:30 club. Their showmanship did not disappoint, but ballad after ballad bored listeners.

Eclectic lineup an odd mix for lackluster 9:30 club show

·

An odd crowd gathered to see an equally odd lineup when the Super Furry Animals, known for their progressive power-pop, played the 9:30 club Sunday night. The floor was surprisingly packed for an early show, but the swarm that assembled appeared to be equally as intrigued by SFA as it was with backup help from electronic post-punkers Holy Fuck and eclectic indie rockers, The Fiery Furnaces.

SHADOW GAMES - Players gain strength and skills from their shadows in this classic role-playing game that follows characters as a monster attacks their village every 10 years. Vivid graphics, such as armor-wearing centaurs and multiheaded snakes, make the

Explore Smith's melancholy indie successors

Elliott Smith's melancholy acoustics and tortured life are well-known to music fans as varied as sound track listeners and indie junkies. His lyrics, laden with angst yet often stimulated by optimism, are consistently laced with the artist's brilliant musical pieces and airy vocals, creating a distinct fusion that audiences continue to embrace time and time again, evidenced by the success of his two posthumous releases "From a Basement on the Hill" and "New Moon.

Learn main strokes of Baroque

If you've heard of Baroque, it's likely it was from Disney's animated Magnum opus "Beauty and the Beast." While giving her a tour of the castle, Cogsworth quips to Belle, "If it's not Baroque, don't fix it!" Cogsworth was gushing over the architecture of the castle, but Baroque also refers to a style of painting and sculpture (as well as orchestral music - but that's a whole other story).

Review: Mars Volta unleashes 'Bedlam' on new album

About 20 years ago, prog-rock died a deserved death. Humiliated by new wave and devoured by its own bloat, progressive bands like King Crimson and Yes faded into obscurity, scaled back to play for fundamentalists or slicked up their sounds to fit the current trends.

Yeasayer "All Hour Cymbals" Sounds like: Beach Boys meet Animal Collective Yeasayer has become the biggest indie sensation since whatever the last indie sensation was. Fortunately, the Brooklyn band's debut album "All Hour Cymbals" meets the hype. Complex, yet accessible, Yeasayer's sound has an air of vague familiarity, though few will be able to pin down exactly what it is.
