Sex & Sensibility: Stranger things have happened

·

It all started on a public bus in D.C. It was around 8 p.m. on a weekday, and I sat down with my books and tried to occupy myself by staring out the window. Film: 'Welcome to Mooseport'

Donald Petrie's biggest mistake of his career was trusting Ray Romano's ability to act. Nobody wants to see "Everybody Loves Raymond" any more than they have to, especially not for today's astronomical ticket prices. Petrie's skill as a director has shown through on numerous occasions with films like "Grumpy Old Men" (1993) and "How to Love a Guy in Ten Days" (2003), but he fails miserably in "Welcome to Mooseport."

The Rusty Nail

I often ask myself, "Is AU really below the Mason-Dixon line?" Despite the evidence to the contrary (liberal attitudes, no accents, black people regularly winning elections without white interference), the District of Columbia really is a Southern colony.

Just the beats, ma'am

As a singer, songwriter, poet, rapper and producer, Just Jack uses melodic songs in combination with a rap-based trip-hop soul. "The Outer Marker" serves as a self-reflection of Jack's experiences and his opinions and observations of social life. The simple beats and brief electronic samplings and effects create an emotional, somewhat placid optimism.

Are Grammys bought by top grossers?

One would think that a 46-year-old organization would have its priorities straight. The Grammy Awards has turned into a spectacle, muddling the definition of good music. Does an artist or band need to have a slot on the next NOW! compilation in order to merit such an award or be deemed musically talented? Apparently so.

While the cover of Cosmopolitan formerly read "How to Please Your Man," more and more women's magazines are focusing on how women should please themselves, whether it is with the hottest pair of Kenneth Coles or the raciest vibrator on the market.
