First, the New England "Team of Destiny" Patriots defeated the hapless Indianapolis Colts, paving their way to their second Super Bowl in three years. What a feeling! Then, Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) takes the Iowa Caucuses, hammering the Vermont Madman, Howard Dean.

Film review: "The Company"

"The Company" is one of those movies that, because of its ill-timed opening, will not be seen by the audience size it deserves. When the film opens tomorrow, it will be too late for serious consideration for the Academy Awards, and the praise it deserves has already been rationed by critics who are busy flinging theirs at Oscar bait.

Funk Brothers doo-wop the Birchmere

The Funk Brothers caused a raucous audience to dance, clap and work some naughty moves on performers at the Birchmere music hall in Alexandria, Va., Monday night. For those who are not familiar with the band, guest vocalist Peabo Bryson described the Funk Brothers best by saying that "their music is the fabric of our society."

It's tough being a consumer of entertainment these days. Pay $15 for the book or $9 to see the movie? Read the book first before seeing the movie adaptation, or wait until after? It's a toss-up in terms of quality, but one thing is sure: for the quantity of sales revenue in a book-to-movie crossover, the sky's the limit.

Britney on the rebound with 'Toxic' video

After her disappointing video for "Me Against The Music," Britney Spears convinced critics (including this one) that the end of her Top-40 reign was nearing. Fortunately, the 55 hours Spears spent as a loyal, devoted wife in Las Vegas must have refreshed her waning creative brilliance, because the newly released video for "Toxic" is as cool, polished and intoxicating as a chilled can of Sapporo.

'Torque' spins to a dead stop

According to Daniel Longino, "While 'Torque' isn't meant to be an intellectual endeavor by any means, it lacks any ingenuity and takes few risks, resulting in a very run-of-the-mill product."
