'Return of the King' completes LOTR

As the semester winds down, many are frantically trying to salvage grades, while others are looking forward to returning home for the holidays. However, there is another event that has captured the imagination and interest of many at AU - the final chapter in what may be one of the biggest events in film history: the release of "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King." Check back for The Eagle's review of the film before it's released Dec. 17.

MP3.com closes its browser

Dec. 2 was doomsday for independent music. As of noon Tuesday, Mp3.com closed its server and deleted its roughly 750,000 files, marking the end of the largest catalogue of free Internet downloads from hundreds of thousands of unsigned bands, as well as downloadable tracks from an array of artists on Universal Records, the site's former owner.

Simon and Garfunkel play classic concert

When Art Garfunkel, of '60s folk-rock duo Simon and Garfunkel, called "Kathy's Song" a song of "sweet nostalgia" at Sunday night's sold-out show in Toronto, the same could have been said of the entire evening. "Sorry it took us so long to get this together," Garfunkel told the audience of more than 18,000. "But we're thrilled to be here."

Taking Back big in '03

Two years ago, Taking Back Sunday was nothing more than a blip on the Long Island, N.Y. music map. But in the 600-plus days that followed, the band's debut LP "Tell All Your Friends" outsold nearly every independent release that year, and tickets for Taking Back Sunday's shows became valuable commodities as shows sold out weeks in advance.
