G-town goes down in hyped matchup

·

All you needed to know about Georgetown last Saturday night is that at one bar, things got so crowded before the game that the owner volunteered to send people in line on a bus to see the game at his "other bar" in Columbia, Md. Other than that, everything pretty much went as expected: the big men (Hibbert, Noah, and Oden) dominated, and Florida and Ohio State both won.

Lacrosse ends four-game streak with loss at HC

·

The AU women's lacrosse team lost to Holy Cross at Worcester, Mass., on Saturday, 15-5, ending their four-game winning streak. The defeat drops the Eagles to 5-5 on the season and 1-1 in Patriot League play. The Crusaders jumped out to an early lead and never looked back.

AU's Danyelle Halpern prepares to swing for the fences, while Stephanie Remar leads off first.

Women's softball not afraid to play ball with the boys

·

If you wake up early on a Saturday morning and head out to the William I. Jacobs Recreational Complex, you might notice a group of young women taking batting practice or lunging for fly balls. No, the university hasn't sprung for a new varsity sport, but the AU women's club softball team has been filling the spring athletic void quite nicely.

Keith Gill of the University of Oklahoma was named athletic director last Thursday.

Track teams break personal bests at Navy Invitational

This past weekend at the Navy Invitational, the AU men's and women's track teams set numerous personal best times, including three Eagles qualifying for the NCAA regional meet at the end of the season. The men's side was paced by seniors Dustin Emrani and Brendan Fennell, as well as sophomore Carlos Jamieson, who were able to run well enough to post an NCAA-qualifying time in their respective events.

Grounded wrestling champ brings AU to new heights

In a city where politics reign supreme and the local sports teams are plagued by mediocrity, Josh Glenn is an anomaly. The American University junior made school history last weekend in Auburn Hills, Mich., when he won the NCAA wrestling title in the 197-pound weight class, becoming the first AU athlete in 40 years to take home a national title.

A sporting revival in our own backyard

We've got a lot of things to cover here, so let's ride. First of all, no matter what's happening nationally, the first thing that needs to be acknowledged and celebrated is an event that took place in our own corner of the 202. For about a year now, AU has not had an athletic director, which is maybe good considering that when there was an athletic director, teams were cut from the budget.
