The Eagles' failure to score ultimately ended their season, a problem that's plagued them throughout the year.

However, Sunday's 64-50 loss at Bucknell exposed some problems that the Eagles need to fix if they are to be one of the elite teams in the Patriot League next season.

Second-half buries AU lacrosse

The AU women's lacrosse team fell to Old Dominion on Saturday, losing to the Lady Monarchs, 14-12, in a home contest at the William I Jacobs Recreational Complex. The loss marks the Eagles' second in their first two games after losing to Towson last Wednesday in their season opener.

Howard spoils home opener for women's tennis The AU women's tennis team was defeated by Howard Sunday, 4-3. The doubles matches were tight, with Howard winning two of them by an 8-4 margin to capture the doubles point. The AU tandem of Julia Colarusso and Malvina DeLaCanal won the third doubles match for the Eagles Things were going well at first for AU in singles play, as Colarusso's opponent, Aja Wright, retired because of an injury in the beginning of the first set.

AU takes two at EIWA tournament

Just four years ago the AU wrestling program was on death watch. On Sunday the program proved how alive it is. Muzaffar Abdurakhmanov and Josh Glenn each won Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association titles at Lehigh, earning berths to the NCAA championships next week.

After down year, men seeded fourth in tournament

After clinching the fourth seed in the Patriot League Tournament with a victory over Lafayette Saturday, the Eagles will travel to Lewisburg, Pa., Friday to face the Leopards again for the first game of the tournament. This season AU overcame a 0-6 start and a 0-2 start to conference play to finish in the top half of the PL.

Tigers rally late past AU

The AU women's lacrosse team suffered a hard-fought loss to the No. 12 Towson Tigers yesterday, 17-10, in its season opener. It was also the first-ever game for the team at the new William I Jacobs Recreational Complex. The Tigers proved too tough, scoring five straight goals and closing the game on a 7-2 run to end the game with a seven-goal victory, ending AU's chance of an upset.

Great expecations for Eagle wrestlers in EIWA title battle

The AU wrestlers will trek to Lehigh this weekend trying to capture an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association title and a chance to make the NCAA Championships. The Eagles will be competing against wrestlers from thirteen other schools to get spots for to the NCAAs.

Fifty-four percent. That's what the Holy Cross Crusaders shot in their 74-55 drubbing of the AU women's basketball team two weeks ago. That kind of effort won't get it done when the Eagles travel to Worcester, Mass., to play Holy Cross in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament Thursday night.

Someone forgot to give the AU freshmen on the women's basketball team the memo: Tuesday night was Senior Night. The frosh mob of Tish Curry, Talicia Jackson, Sahar Nusseibeh, Nicole Ryan and Pam Stanfield turned Tuesday's celebration of the veterans into a coming-out party for the first-year Eagles in an 89-81 overtime victory over Patriot League-rival Navy.

Sports brief: Wrestling wins finale in North Dakota

The AU wrestling took six matches on the way to winning its last dual match of the season Monday at North Dakota State, 20-16. With the Eagles leading 17-16, the match came down to the heavyweight bout between No. 9 sophomore Adam LoPiccolo and the Bison's Mike Maresh.
