Rugby faces tough competition this summer

This summer the AU men's rugby club team has made some painful strides in trying to improve their program by competing in multiple matches during the off season. In late June the Eagles competed to a one-and-three record at the Potomac Athletic Club 7s Rugby Tournament.

AU names new Women's Basketball Coach

Melissa McFerrin will succeed Shann Hart as the head coach of the AU Women's Basketball team, according to an announcement by the Athletics Department in early May. McFerrin joins the Eagles from the University of Minnesota, where she was an assistant coach for the past two years, including last season's run to the Final Four.

Arsenic field renewal delayed

AU fans awaiting the construction of a multipurpose AstroTurf facility on campus will have to wait just a little bit longer. Work on a softball diamond with a turf outfield large enough to double as a regulation-sized field for field hockey - among other things - has been delayed by logistical issues typical of construction, said Ed McLaughlin, AU's associate athletic director for facilities and operations.

Jeff Jones, head coach of the AU Men's Basketball team, made it to the Final Four in a different capacity this year - as a father. Putting aside painful memories of a third straight loss in the Patriot League Championship game, Jones took his 10-year-old son, Jeff Jr., to San Antonio for his first Final Four.

In a season that saw them come so close so many times, the end result came as a surprise to no one. The AU Men's Golf team finished in fifth place at the Patriot League Championship at Colgate's Seven Oaks Golf Course, its final tournament of the year.

AU's regular-season Men's Tennis match against Army in late March was an epic, spanning over four hours and won in the final singles match on court. In the rematch - this Sunday's Patriot League championship - AU clinched victory before church let out.

A dynasty is in the making. The AU Women's Tennis team defeated the Army Black Knights this Sunday in the Patriot League Championship title game. The Eagles dominated the second meeting of the season between these two teams; four of the six matches. The championship is the second in three years for the Eagles, both coming against Army.

Lax Senior Day bittersweet

In any sport, it's usually the seniors that make the storyline on Senior Day. Saturday's Women's Lacrosse match versus Patriot League rival Holy Cross was no exception, although a balanced effort from everyone made it possible.
