Swimmers split meet

The AU Swimming and Diving teams hosted an evening of rarities Saturday against Lehigh at Reeves Aquatic Center. In only the teams' second home meet of the season, the Men's side won its first dual meet in a year, 166-112, and Women's Diving performed for the first time this season but fell 173-119.

AU soccer star signs with pros

Peter Philipakos, AU Men's Soccer's leading scorer last season, signed with Greek professional side AEK Football Club, a perennial contender in Greece's first division, on Jan. 9. Philipakos traveled to Greece over winter break to train with the club, with intentions to return for AU's spring season. Instead, AEK (Athletic Union of Constantinopolitans) signed him for a three-and-a-half year term, running from the second half of Greece's current 2003-04 season to the end of the 2006-07 campaign.

Mens' basketball falls to 2-1 in Patriot League

The Men's Basketball team finished Saturday's Patriot League clash against visiting Lehigh on an offensive stretch colder than the frigid air bearing down on D.C. With at least a tie for the PL lead on the line, the Eagles did not make a field goal for the last 10:34 of the game, including one overtime session.

Mountain Hawks prey on Eagles

After opening their Patriot League season in such promising fashion, the Lady Eagles suffered a critical blow on Saturday losing 69-55 to Lehigh at Bender Arena. "Our offensive execution was poor and we didn't take care of the ball," AU head coach Shann Hart said.

Sometimes a five-game losing streak is just what a team needs to awaken a sleeping giant. And that sleeping giant is the AU Women's Basketball team, picked to finish second in the Patriot League.

Men's B-ball torpedoes Navy

Navy had no answer for AU senior guard Andres Rodriguez, who set a school and conference record with 19 assists Wednesday night. Nor did they have an answer for freshman guard Andre Ingram, who scored a career-high 27 points, including eight three pointers, in the same game.

Eagles split tourney

AU Women's Basketball lost a close contest on Saturday to No. 25 Arizona by a score of 75-63, then came back Sunday to rout Utah State 60-41. Both games were part of the Fiesta Bowl Classic, hosted by the University of Arizona.

Volleyball drops to No. 25 Terrapins

The team on the losing end of a 3-0 volleyball match doesn't always have much to be happy about. AU was an exception Friday night in College Park, Md., in its first-round match with No. 25 Maryland in the NCAA Tournament before a loud crowd of 1,012, about a fifth were Eagles fans.
