Volleyball's NCAA tournament run cut short by UCLA

The AU Eagles lost a 2-1 lead to the UCLA Bruins on Friday night, falling 3-2 to the Bruins in the first round of the NCAA tournament at the Gregory Gymnasium in Austin, Texas. The Eagles fell 26-28, 26-24, 23-25, 25-19, 15-11 in a thrilling loss to the Bruins.

Don't hold anything personal against LeBron James

LeBron James made his return to Cleveland on Thursday night to hear deafening boos and a lot of not-so-nice chants. While he was deserving of what he got, the constant criticism he has received since joining the Miami Heat cannot be justified.

Michelle Kirk leaves women's basketball team

Senior Michelle Kirk has left the women’s basketball team “for personal reasons," according to a press release from the AU Athletics Department. Kirk’s name has been removed from the roster on the AU Athletics website. In the release, Director of Athletics and Recreation Keith Gill said, “The University supports Michelle’s decision and we wish her the best as she continues her studies at AU.”

Talent, not morals, dictate Michael Vick’s return to football

On Monday Night Football last week, as the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Pop Warner Redskins, the announcers began a conversation about Michael Vick’s return to the NFL. They discussed Eagles’ Head Coach Andy Reid’s decision to give Vick a second chance, mentioning that both of Reid’s sons have dealt with their own legal troubles over the last few years. While that makes for a nice story, it is naïve to think that the Philadelphia QB was signed as some sort of social statement.

It has been officially three months since I arrived on the campus of American University, and to my surprise, I have not met one person out of the 6,000 plus students in the enrollment who like NASCAR. New York Jets fans, Phillies fans, but no Dale Jr. fans.

Freshmen duo look to make impact on AU basketball team

Guard Wayne Simon II and forward Tony Wroblicky are a freshman dynamic duo for the men’s basketball team. Simon and Wroblicky are the only two freshman on the team. While they are teammates on the court and good friends off the court, they couldn’t be more different.
