Mets among losers of MLB offseason

While Yankees fans celebrated in the streets, some fans began hoping their team’s next season was better than last, while others were left scratching their heads following the moves — or lack of moves — made by management.

No parity in NBA season

After falling in the playoffs last season, the Cavaliers went out and signed Shaquille O’Neal. The goal of brining him in was to help LeBron win the elusive championship ring. Despite Shaq’s numerous injury problems and lack of playtime, LeBron has the Cavaliers in firm control of the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Not only do the Cavs look to be in control; they just completed the season sweep of the Lakers.


HIGH SCORING — Michelle Kirk drives the lane during AU’s 53-31 win over Lafayette on Saturday. During the game Kirk scored her 1,000th career point, becoming the 12th player in AU history to accomplish the feat. With the win, AU improved to 7-0 in the Patriot League.

Kirk 12th woman in AU history to score 1,000

AU basketball player Michelle Kirk surpassed the 1,000-point mark on Saturday, but it was the team’s undefeated record that Kirk raved about after the game. She contributed nine points to the win against the Lafayette Leopards. She said she found inspiration to succeed in her desire for more play time.

Fighting a strange battle

When thinking of great sports rivalries, some people think of Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, while others think of Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. But there have been some great rivalries over the years that may not be as well known but deserve to be mentioned with the all-time greats.

Michelle Kirk, Liz Leer and Raven Harris all scored in double digits and the AU women’s basketball team held off a second-half Holy Cross rally to defeat the Crusaders 64-51 on Sunday.
