Honesty is the best policy. It is a pretty standard rule most people live by and when someone is caught in a lie and the person apologizes, often times all is forgiven. So why does new Cardinals hitting coach, Mark McGwire, think this does not apply to him?

NFL playoff races are still up for grabs

With the NFL season passing the halfway point after this week’s games, it’s time to take a look at each division and see who is positioning themselves for a playoff run.

SETTING IT UP â€” Junior Deborah Frantz sets up for a spike in AUâ€™s 3-0 win over the Navy Midshipmen. The win is the fourth in a row for the Eagles. With the win, AU stays in the hunt for the Patriot League playoffs and their season may come down to their Nov. 6 match against the Army Black Knights.

AU wins four in a row

The AU men’s soccer team suffered its first loss in Patriot League play this weekend, losing to Holy Cross 2-0. The loss breaks a nine game winning streak by AU and puts the team 2nd in the Patriot League behind Bucknell University.

Field hockey takes Patriot League regular season title

On a chilly Sunday afternoon, the AU field hockey team easily defeated the Lehigh Mountain Hawks by a score of 8-1 at Jacobs Field, to clinch the team’s seventh straight Patriot League Regular Season Championship.

LOOKING UP â€” Junior forward Mike Worden goes up for a ball in a home match this season. AU has been on a roll going 7-0-2 in their last nine games. They will look to remain perfect in the Patriot League with a match against the Holy Cross University Crusaders. The Eagles are 5-1-1 on the road and 9-3-2 on the season overall.

AU volleyball got the two wins they needed against Lehigh University Friday night and Lafayette University Saturday to keep their playoff hopes alive.

PLAYING IN THE RAINâ€”Senior Colin Zizzi heads the ball in AUâ€™s double overtime thriller. While the game was a draw, it still leaves the Eagles without a loss in the conference. Their next game is Wednesday at Georgetown. The men have a 8-3-2 record overall and 4-0-1 in the Patriot League.

Late October is one of those odd periods, where all four major sports are going on at once. Hockey has just started and football’s reaching the bulk of its season, giving Redskins fans a reason to dread Sundays. As baseball is on its way out, basketball is just beginning to enter the picture; with a reloaded and much better NBA.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER â€” Two time All-Patriot League Second Teamer Cameron Petty scored his first goal of the season against the Midshipmen. It was the only goal of the game, as AU won 1-0. The game keeps them perfect in the Patriot League with 12 points. They are three points in front of Bucknell.
