Women's soccer drops opener

The AU women's soccer team dropped its season opener on Saturday, losing to Georgetown in overtime 2-1 during the team's annual Phil Reeves game. A record crowd of 1,152 people cheered and chanted throughout the match, reflecting the intensity of the play on the field.

STILL SWINGING - All-Star Kevin Youkilis needs to keep his strong season going if the Red Sox are to make it back to the playoffs this season.  The team is 3.5 games behind the Rays in the AL East as of August 26th.

A-Rod, Yanks pulling plug on long season

It was the bottom of the seventh inning, one out, bases loaded, the game on the line in the Bronx. On Tuesday night, the Yankees trailed the Red Sox by four runs, five games in the American League Wild Card standings, and up comes Alex Rodriguez. It was the same Rodriguez who had 31 RBI's in the eighth inning or later last season.

Members of the men's and women's track and field teams competed at the prestigious Penn Relays over the weekend, with the four by one mile relay team taking home fourth place in the collegiate men's Championship of America. The team, composed of junior Carlos Jamieson and seniors Brendan Fennell, Brian McCabe and Steve Hallinan, completed the course in 16:32.

Lacrosse falls in PL final; lose to Red Raiders

The women's lacrosse team was unable to gain a berth to the NCAA tournament on Sunday, falling to the Colgate Red Raiders 13-8 in the Patriot League championship game held on Jacobs Field. The Eagles had defeated the Navy Midshipmen 17-15 in the semifinals Friday afternoon.

Eagles to host Patriot League Tournament

AU's Patriot League regular season champion lacrosse team will begin its quest for an NCAA tournament bid when it hosts the U.S. Naval Academy in the league semifinals Friday. In their only meeting this season, the Eagles lost to the Midshipmen 13-12 April 1.

Solo titles highlight track effort

The AU men's and women's track teams picked up six individual wins over the weekend at the Centennial Track Meet on the campus of Mount St. Mary's University. Four of the victories came from the men's squad. Junior Carlos Jamieson picked up a win in the 800-meter run, finishing the course with a time of 1:51.

Women's lacrosse leads Patriot League

The woman's lacrosse team Saturday clinched the Patriot League regular season title with a 13-10 win over Colgate. Colgate came out onto Jacobs Field ready to fight, scoring the first goal with 25:58 on the clock. It wasn't long, however, before AU tied the game and then eventually, took the lead.

Women's basketball coach Melissa McFerrin has been hired by the University of Memphis to coach its women's basketball team. McFerrin carried the Eagles to the Patriot League season championship title this year and advanced AU to the postseason for the first time since 1998.

Hallinan and Lilley awarded PL Runners of the Week Patriot League conference officials announced that seniors Steve Hallinan and Kate Lilley were named the Patriot League runners of the week for their efforts at last week's Bison Outdoor Games. Both took home the top spot in their respective 1500-meter races; Hallinan finished with a time of 3:44.

With Ryan Zimmerman's walk-off homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning in the Washington Nationals' home opener in brand-new Nationals Park March 30, fans across the city could not help but wonder if this was the year the Nationals would surprise Major League Baseball.

Hallinan and Lilley victorious in 1500m

Seniors Steve Hallinan and Kate Lilley won their respective 1500-meter runs on Friday as the AU track and field teams competed at the Bison Outdoor Games over the weekend. Hallinan took home first place with a season-best time of 3:44.28, finishing ahead of Yale's Jared Bell for the victory.

AU alumni Sal Caccavale, a former member of the men's soccer team, always dreamt of playing soccer for a living. However, after a year on MLS' Red Bull New York team, Caccavale has learned that playing professionally is not always all it is cracked up to be.

Lacrosse crushes HC Crusaders, wins 17-10

The women's lacrosse team scored the first and last goals during their game against the Holy Cross Crusaders Saturday and won 17-10. The game started with sophomore midfielder Amanda Makoid's goal at 26:51, which gave AU an early 1-0 lead. The Crusaders answered seven minutes later and tied the score at 1-1.

Lacrosse loses fifth in a row to Richmonds

The women's lacrosse team dropped its fifth game in a row, losing on the road to the Richmond Spiders 20-12 yesterday afternoon. The loss drops the Eagles' record to 5-9 on the season. AU found itself in a quick deficit that it could not dig itself out of all game.
