Wizards fans should forget about miracle run in NBA playoffs

·

So the news today is that Mark Prior will have surgery and miss the entire season. While this is unfortunate for Cubs fans, I'm wondering how Prior "not pitching ever" makes the news. You wouldn't tell me that the sun rose, the earth turned, and that Ryan Seacrest is the world's foremost tool, because these things are already assumed and understood.

Making the "three-week lull" annulled

·

We're almost three full weeks into April and with that said three weeks into baseball season, or as I like to call it, the "three week lull". Few know about the "three week lull", but many experience it. It's that time during baseball season where the excitement of the game is slowly melting away to the realization that, although these match ups count towards the season, they're not as exciting as we often want them to be.

Despite tough routine, AU Crew loves what they do

Picture waking up at least six days a week at 4 AM in the morning. You arrive at your destination at 5:30 AM and for the next two hours you're required to row. Later in the day you spend another two hours at the gym working on the cardio machines and lifting weights.

Juniors Caitlin Bell and Jackie Lane scored last-minute goals to force extra time but it was not enough for AU, as they lost to Lehigh 10-9 in double overtime on the road this past Saturday. Gymnastics gains credibility in third year as club

For senior Rachel Centariczki, graduation day is a bittersweet one. Along with fellow senior, Sarah Bishop, Centariczki started the AU gymnastics club three years ago, and has watched it grow into the program it has become today. This past week, the team competed at the National Association of Intercollegiate Gymnastics Club's annual national tournament, which was held in Cincinnati, Ohio.

When sports and politics meet: the recent free speech debate

It was a strange week for sports, and a strange week for the world. Unless you live under a rock, you know that "wannabe" shock jock Don Imus (who usually saves his tirades for calling Hilary Clinton a "lesbian bitch") has been fired for calling members of the Rutger's women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos.

NHL PLayoff Predictions

It's that time of the year again. While most of the country is squarely under the minion of Mel Kiper Jr. and his multiple spreadsheets of NFL draft prognostication, a select few is awaiting the NHL second season with glee. There is nothing in sports that can in any form equal the intensity that is the NHL playoffs.

Senior lacrosse standout steps up in final season at American

The American University women's lacrosse team may have a young team for its 2007 campaign, with over half the team being composed of freshmen and sophomores, but one special upperclassman stands out. Referred to as "Gorms" by her teammates, Caithlin Gorman is anything but ordinary, on and off the lacrosse field.

Three blind predictions: Pondering the 2007 MLB season

Yogi Berra once said, "In baseball, you don't know nothing." Truer words had never been uttered by the man who once said, "Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical." I mean honestly, do any of us really know anything about this game? If you were the one guy who on a drunken limb told your buddy that midseason rookie call-up Anibel Sanchez, who started the season in AA, would be the guy to break the longest no-hitter drought in Major League Baseball history, well, hell man, give me a call, we need to find some real estate! With that said, here are three predictions I am making for the 2007 season.

Lacrosse doomed by slow start, fall to UMBC, 15-9

The AU women's lacrosse team lost its second straight match Wednesday afternoon, falling to the UMBC Retrievers 15-9 in Baltimore, Md. The loss drops the Eagles below the .500 mark on the season at 5-6. The Eagles were down early, as two goals by Ali Levendusky sandwiched around a tally by Abbey Swift gave the Retrievers a quick 3-0 advantage only three minutes into the game.

Springtime AU spirit (without the sports)

Take a moment to look at Jacobs field and chances are, unless you happen to get there when women's lacrosse is practicing, or the track team is working on its stride, you probably won't see much action taking place. No, the deficit of teams using the field is not due in part to recent findings of radiation from WW1 weaponry testing; rather, it's due to our lack of funding from the athletic department.
