Bench used to bring in win for women's basketball team

Players came off the bench Tuesday night to defeat the Monmouth University Hawks 67-51 when several players on the women's basketball team did not feel well. Since junior guards Pam Stanfield and Talicia Jackson played under the weather, players such as Sahar Nusseibeh, Liz Leer and Ashley Yencho, who don't normally start, came off the bench and came up big for the Eagles.

Milestone win for men's basketball

The 82-year-old men's basketball team Tuesday night reached an impressive milestone when it notched its 1,000th win after defeating local rival Howard University, 66-54. The Eagles were slow off the opening tip, allowing Howard to go on a 7-to-1 run in the first two minutes of the game.

Eagles pinned down by Hawks

The wrestling team Sunday night lost its home opening dual meet 27-15 to the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks in Bender Arena. The Eagles dropped the first three matches of the night. No. 14 ranked David Craig of Lehigh began the meet with a 15-0 technical fall in the 184-pound division, giving the Hawks an early 5-0 lead.

Volleyball season ends in first round of NCAA Tournament

The volleyball team lost on Friday night to Duke University in the first round of the NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament, bringing a long season of success to a close. Rubena Sukaj continued her outstanding play with her 11th double-double of the season, scoring 22 kills and digging a team-high 13 balls.

Women's basketball gains home win

The women's basketball team defeated the Western Michigan Broncos 65-61 Saturday night in Bender Arena. On their first possession, the Eagles opened the scoring with a basket from senior Stephanie N'Garsanet. The team quickly went on to gain a 10-4 lead.

ONE-ON-ONE PLAY- Junior Bryce Simon's attempt at a basket is reflected by his close-playing UMBC opponent. Despite Simon's career high of 13 points throughout the game, the Eagles were unable to add another winning tally to their record books.

Men's basketball ends two-game winning streak to UMBC, 83-68

The men's basketball team was back on their home court Saturday afternoon when they ended its two-game winning streak in a disappointing 83-68 loss to the University of Maryland Baltimore County. The UMBC Retrievers stepped onto the floor with precision and execution as they quickly went on a 7-0 run in the first two minutes of the game.

Hayes takes home weekly PL award Senior Liz Hayes of the women's basketball team received Monday the Patriot League Baden Player of the Week award. Hayes averaged 19.7 points and five assists per game last week. She led all scorers with 18 points in the Eagles' game against Wagner.

After losing the season home opener 60-52 to Fairfield University on Thursday, the men's basketball team came out strong Sunday, defeating Stony Brook University 64-56. On Thursday, the Eagles came out strong in front of a crowd of just under 1,500 fans, led by junior guards Garrison Carr and Derrick Mercer, who scored 11 points each in the first half.

Women's basketball blown out in opener

The women's basketball team could not build off its season-opening win, falling Tuesday to Virginia Commonwealth University 71-38. VCU dominated from the start, out-rebounding and out-hustling the Eagles. The Rams' swarming defense stifled AU throughout the game, forcing the Eagles into sloppy turnovers and rushed shots.
