Men's hoops: Ingram leads AU in pair of conference wins

AU 55 - Navy 46 Andre Ingram scored 18 points and Brayden Billbe came off the bench to help the Eagles pull away in the second half of a 55-46 win over Navy on Wednesday at Bender Arena. With a 1-4 conference record and coming off two losses in a row, Coach Jeff Jones shuffled his starting lineup prior to the game.

Wrestling breaks streak with loss against Pitt-Johnstown

The American University wrestling team had two matches over the weekend, going one-for-two with a win over Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Conn., on Friday and a loss at home against Pittsburg-Johnstown on Sunday. The Eagles began the weekend with a big win over Sacred Heart, tallying a team score of 28-19.

The AU women's basketball team rallied from a large first-half deficit for the second game in a row, erasing an eight-point Navy lead before cruising to a 62-48 victory. The win was the second league win in a row for the Eagles, improving their PL record to 4-2 and their overall mark to 9-12.

Former AU soccer captain Sal Caccavale was drafted into Major League Soccer last Thursday when he was selected by Red Bull New York. His selection marks the fifth time in the past six years that an Eagle was chosen to play soccer at the professional level.

Women's hoops come back for win over HC

The AU women's basketball team overcame a double-digit deficit in the second half yesterday to beat PL-rival Holy Cross 59-55 in the annual "Phil Bender" game. The victory was the first for the Eagles against the Crusaders since the 2004 PL semifinals. The two teams would start off the game matching basket for basket in opening minutes of play.

Eagles split doubleheader as students 'Phil Bender'

Arvydas Eitutavicius led the Eagles with 24 points, including 16 in the second half, to help the Eagles force overtime, but Holy Cross hit eight of nine free throws in the extra period to escape Bender Arena with a 69-64 victory on Saturday. The Crusaders quickly grabbed a four-point lead in overtime, however the Eagles fought back to tie the game at 62 with a little over a minute remaining.

Continuing their season-long success, the American University indoor track teams competed at the University of Maryland Invitational on Saturday, winning two events and placing in the top 10 in several others. The Eagles had a strong showing in the men's mile, taking four top-10 finishes.

The Eagles ran away with the top spot in two races, as junior Steven Hallinan took first in the 1,000 meter and senior Awit Yohannes reigned victorious in the 3,000.

The AU women's basketball team was unable to overcome an 18-point halftime deficit, losing to Army 60-47 in Annapolis, Md., on Tuesday night. The loss dropped the Eagles to 2-2 in the Patriot League and 7-12 on the season. The Eagles started strong, going on a quick 7-0 run to take an early 7-2 advantage.
