The AU women's rugby team finished the season with a 3-5 record.

Women's rugby has rough-and-tumble 2006 season

·

American University's women's rugby team had a losing season (3-5), but senior captain Colleen McHugh said this year wasn't a disappointment. "I think this was an important building season," McHugh said. "A lot of young players gained experience, we got a group of great new players and we learned what skills we need to focus on for the playoffs in the spring.

No. 43 Linas Lekavicius and the Eagles have their first 2-0 season start since 2003 with their win over Morgan State on Tuesday night.

Offense rolls in men's basketball home opener

·

AU 97, Morgan State 84 Andre Ingram and Garrison Carr each hit five three-pointers and Derrick Mercer dished out 11 assists to lead AU to a 97-84 victory over Morgan State on Tuesday night at Bender Arena. A strong shooting performance by the Eagles, who hit 11 of 18 from three-point range, allowed AU to hold a double-digit lead for most of the game, an encouraging sign for a team that struggled to find consistent offense last season.

Senior Elizabeth Maloney has won three consecutive Patriot League titles in her AU career.

Maloney hopes to come up aces at PL tournament

·

When fans filling the bleachers of Bender Arena this fall see somebody sporting a red and white Maple Leaf flag at a school called American University, they can only be thinking of one player. She is none other than Elizabeth Maloney, a four-year veteran of the AU volleyball team and native of America's neighbor to the north.

Bald Canadians, diabetic rookies and drive-bys: The NBA is back

After the success that was last week's MLB awards column (and since nobody sent in any questions to answer and I didn't feel like making any up this week), I had to decide between two possible topics: NFL Midseason Awards or NBA Season Preview. Although making fun of Brett Favre never gets old (can't say the same thing about Brett), anticipation over the return of Hubie Brown to our televisions made this one an easy decision.
