AU lacrosse beats undefeated Lehigh, 17-16

The AU women’s lacrosse team beat the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks 17-16 on Saturday. The Hawks had not lost a game this season before the match. This surprise win could mean an exciting season for Eagles lacrosse, especially in light of the mere three wins the team earned last season.

Rookie defenseman John Carlson finally found the back of the net Thursday night against the Carolina Hurricanes, but Washington Capitals fans shouldn’t be surprised if he continues to light the goal lamp. Carlson was the team’s top prospect heading into the season, but it seemed as if he was several years away from making it to the NHL. He progressed quickly during development camp and was called up by the team in November. While it was only a three-game stint, he showed he could keep up with the speed of the game.

Women’s lacrosse wins their first Patriot League match of the year

Senior Amanda Makoid led AU with a career-high four goals, giving her a team-leading 13 for the season. Five other Eagles scored two goals apiece and junior Brit Ferguson controlled a career-high nine draws. The win snapped a two-game losing streak.
