Watch any sporting event and you will surely see at least one player who engages in some form of superstition. Whether it’s LeBron James tossing chalk into the air before every game or a goalie tapping the goalposts, these traditions happen in almost every sport.

AU lacrosse beats undefeated Lehigh, 17-16

The AU women’s lacrosse team beat the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks 17-16 on Saturday. The Hawks had not lost a game this season before the match. This surprise win could mean an exciting season for Eagles lacrosse, especially in light of the mere three wins the team earned last season.

Capitals' John Carlson has potential to be top D-man

Rookie defenseman John Carlson finally found the back of the net Thursday night against the Carolina Hurricanes, but Washington Capitals fans shouldn’t be surprised if he continues to light the goal lamp. Carlson was the team’s top prospect heading into the season, but it seemed as if he was several years away from making it to the NHL. He progressed quickly during development camp and was called up by the team in November. While it was only a three-game stint, he showed he could keep up with the speed of the game.

With only a week left until the baseball season begins, Sports Editor Andrew Tomlinson and Assistant Sports Editor Sam Lindauer talk about everything about the upcoming season. From the Nationals to division previews, they discuss everything a fan will need to know.






IN CONTROL — AU junior Brit Ferguson takes the ball up field in a game last season. The Eagles won their first Patriot League game over the weekend. Senior Amanda Makoid led the team with four goals, a career high. She has scored 13 on the season. Three Eagles scored in less than a minute to give AU a lead they would not relinquish.

Women’s lacrosse wins their first Patriot League match of the year

The AU women’s lacrosse team earned their first Patriot League win of the season Saturday, as they defeated the Bucknell University Bison 15-13. Senior Amanda Makoid led AU with a career-high four goals, giving her a team-leading 13 for the season. Five other Eagles scored two goals apiece and junior Brit Ferguson controlled a career-high nine draws. The win snapped a two-game losing streak.
